Lenten Potluck Suppers and Evening Prayer

Thanks to all who joined us each Wednesday evening for our Lenten potluck dinners and brief Lenten Evening prayer services. We look toward the end of the year, when we will offer evenings of fellowship and prayerful reflection on our journey through the season of Advent, into Christmas.

Annual Tag Sale

The Annual Good Shepherd Tag Sale was held Saturday, February 24, 2018, in the Fellowship Hall from 8am to 2pm. It was a rousing success. Thank you to all who participated in the sale, from providing items to assisting with setup, and from helping with sales to shopping and making charitable purchases! Hope to see you next time, too!

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper

Thanks to all who came out for one of the 4 seatings for the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on Tuesday, February 13, 2018. The meal prepared and served by Cub Scouts Pack #975 was delicious. Many folks enjoyed a great evening of fellowship, food, and fun!

Good Shepherd Winter Music Series 2017-2018

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church welcomed longtime friend of the church, international singer and keyboardist Johny Carlsson and band, The Florida Dixie Kings, who performed A Swingin' Mardis Gras, a rousing afternoon of swinging jazz music with that good ol' "Nawlin's" flavor. This 3PM, Sunday, February 11, 2018 show was the final event of our WInter Music Series. The Series has featured a diverse pallette of musical flavors, from the sounds of Broadway and sacred choral music to bluegrass. Please come on out and support local arts. Doors will open at 2:30 PM and there is a $10 donation per person.

Good Shepherd Fellowship Hours Need Volunteers!

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, renowned for the warmth and cameraderie of our after-church Fellowship Hours, would like to continue to have Fellowship Hours on Sundays. Because we have fallen on times of too few volunteers to work the counters and the kitchen, which resulted in hosting only one coffee hour between Sunday Services during January 2018, the Hospitality Committee is seeking volunteers to help with this beloved ministry. As ever, the harvest are many and the workers are few, so if you feel you are hearing the call to volunteer to help out, please do.  Contact the church office to be directed to the proper folks.  We always need your assistance and would be glad to have it!

From the Office of the Bishop

December 25, 2017

Mary and Joseph were tired of walking approximately 80 miles from Nazareth to Bethlehem. She was heavily pregnant. When they got there, there was no room for them to lay down and rest. Not because people were evil…just that there was no room. Everything was packed. We know the story well--we repeat it every year.

In today’s troubled world, people are traveling many miles, escaping violence, hunger, and even death--perhaps due to a natural disaster or a corrupt government. And just like Mary and Joseph, they still find no room to rest or to settle down when arriving at their dream destination. Others are being rejected and are not accepted in the communities where they grew up, because of being different. Some religious groups have become closed groups only caring for themselves--thus loosing vitality. Many faith leaders are trying to stay healthy and are longing for help.

May the spirit of this Christmas season may be one of acceptance--or at least tolerance--of inclusiveness, and of love. On behalf of all the staff of the Florida-Bahamas Synod of the ELCA, I wish you and your loved ones a blessed, bright and hopeful Christmas and a Happy new year 2018!

Together with you in Christ,

Bishop Pedro M. Suárez

Important: Changes to the Good Shepherd Media Center CD Ministry

Thank you for your patience.  We have recently become a subscriber to OneLicense.net and now may include musical selections, so we are presenting the Sunday services in their entirety, rather than separate pieces for Word and Sermon and Announcements. Shut-ins will receive copies of the CD as before. We will ask other congregants to order a CD recording only if they were sick/confined to home on the Sunday in question (homebound.)
